Bridal hair pieces come in all shapes and sizes, and there's something to match perfectly with every bride's hearts desire. Ranging from petite and dainty bridal hair pins, to bridal combs and side combs; not to mention the array of show-stopping bridal headpieces available, there really IS a bridal hair piece for EVERY bride.
While you may be tempted to go shopping for bridal hair pieces right away (we don't blame you as it's one of the most enjoyable accessories to shop for!), it pays to keep a few things in mind before hitting the checkout button. It's also recommended to start getting your hairstyle ready well in advance with a professional stylist using hairdressing scissors which will help you maintain the healthiest and best-looking hair for your special occasion.
TIP: Finalise your bridal hair style FIRST, as the style of your hair will play a huge part in what type of bridal hair piece you should go for.
There are two main things to consider when shopping for bridal hair pieces:
1. The aesthetics of the hair piece and how it enhances your hairstyle.
Let's imagine you are opting for an elaborate "up-do" with height and volume. To balance this style, you'll need a bridal hair piece that can hold it's own without getting "lost" and running the risk of looking like an after thought.
Conversely, if you're having a very natural downstyle, and want to achieve an effortless look for your wedding day, then choosing highly elaborate bridal hair pieces won't be suitable either.
Basically, you will look for a bridal hair piece that enhances your hairstyle, without overpowering it. Be careful that your choice is not SO subtle that it risks getting swamped by all of the other components in your wedding day look.
2. How the bridal hair piece will function in the hairstyle (and whether it's suitable!)
It's all very good and well to buy a bridal hair piece that you fall in love with, but it's no good if the item you've chosen won't work easily with your hairstyle! For example, if you are having a loose flowing downstyle, then consider the fact that this style may not support a heavy hair piece (especially if you have fine hair). A lightweight bridal comb, a hairpin, or a bridal hair clip may be better suited.
The best thing to do is ask your hairdresser during your hair trial what size and type of bridal hair pieces would work best with your look.
